Roberto Almaguer

 

After arriving in the United States in 1993, Mr. Almaguer has been a Guest Artist with several American Ballet Companies, including the Miami City Ballet and the Ballet Cubano of Miami and has been a Principal Dancer in companies such as Cleveland San Jose Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, and The State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara.  His guest artist work has taken him to a variety of companies in the Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Spain, Bulgaria, Russia, Germany, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, UK , Italy and Canada.  He has been featured in TV in many of these countries and in the United States.

 

In addition to his teaching and dancing curriculum, Mr. Almaguer has been a choreographer for the YAGP (Youth America Grand Prix) in which he was the winning Choreographer in the 2004 edition. Also, in 2002 and 2004, he was featured by the Los Angeles Opera Company as a principal dancer in Placido Domingo's production of The Queen of Spades and La Traviata. These works awarded Mr. Almaguer with the invitation of the Teatro Real of Madrid and the L A Opera, to choreograph La Dama de Picas in Madrid, for a huge and successful production that united many world-renowned opera singers such as Placido Domingo, Tatiana Obratsowa and many others.

 

Mr. Almaguer is a staff member of the Kaatsbaan International Ballet Center's Extreme Ballet, an intensive Ballet Program run yearly by the American Ballet Theatre Artistic Director Kevin Mackenzie, and former Prima Ballerina of ABT Martine Van Hamel.

 

Mr. Almaguer has danced extensively just about all the Classic and Traditional Ballets that the dance public knows and has worked with many of the top name choreographers of the past century, and performed in TV and Theatre.   In addition to his dance training he is also a Certified Massage Therapist, graduating from the Massage School of Pasadena, California.

 

As a Ballet Master /Instructor, his teaching is well known in the US and other countries.

He has  set Le Corsair  for the Ballet Clasico Alina Abreu in the Dominican Republic in June of 2010.

Mr. Almaguer is currently the Artistic Director of Dance Peninsula Ballet, in California.

Born in Cuba, Mr. Almaguer graduated from the school of Ballet de Camaguey, where he began his professional dancing career under the direction of the Father of the Cuban Ballet, Fernando Alonso. Mr. Almaguer was hired as a Soloist with the National Ballet of Cuba in 1989 following his two Gold Medals in 1988 in the International Ballet Competition in Peru.  While being a Soloist with BNC (Ballet Nacional de Cuba) under the direction of world-wide legendary Prima Ballerina Alicia Alonso, Mr. Almaguer toured extensively throughout Europe and Latin America, and performed as a Guest Principal Dancer in several International Ballet Companies.

Mr. Almaguer was honored in 2011 for his choreography of El Adios at the Codanza Dance Competition in Holguin, Cuba.  El Adios was choreographed in his first year with Dance Peninsula Ballet and debuted at the Norris Center for Performing Arts in 2010.
